The giant goddess suddenly appears as one drives on the green mountain road on Shodoshima Island. Statue of Kannon located at the headquarters of “Shodoshima Daikannon Busshiji Temple”, which has achieved popularity as a tourist site on Shodoshima Island. This large statue of Kannon won first prize at the “ARC+ International Competition for ARC+/CANSON Users” and considered the most beautiful Kannon in the world.
The statue is not merely for viewing from outside, but visitors can gain access to her interiors, going up to the top floor in a quick rising elevator. The observation deck on the top floor features beautiful scenery of Seto Inland Sea. The room known as the “Room of Buddha’s Tooth” contains a tooth of Buddha gifted by a Busshiji Temple in Sri Lanka. The top floor is also accessible with a spiral staircase, with a countless number of Buddhas, known as Antenatal Buddhas, lining the wall.
The “Padlock of Vows” located at the foot of the Great Kannon is believed to fulfill wishes when desires or vows are written in prayer, on the heart-shaped plate keys. The precinct is adorned with renowned olive trees of Shodoshima Island, as well as flowers of seasons to fill the spot with time that passes slowly.
