Hotel Overview

KAMENOI HOTEL TOBA is a hot spring hotel overlooking the beautiful ocean of Toba where comfortable sea breezes blow. With Ise Jingu Shrine about 30 minutes away by car and the Toba Aquarium about 10 minutes away by car, this is the perfect base for Mie sightseeing. The hotel offers a variety of guest rooms such as the calm spaces of Japanese-style rooms, Western-style rooms, and special mixed Japanese and Western style rooms with outdoor baths. The baths use the hotel’s very own source of natural hot springs which warm your body to the core. Kick back and relax in the large public baths with outdoor bathing that offers a panoramic view of Toba Bay. Try the private baths where you can enjoy the hot springs to your heart’s content in a space all to yourself.

One popular sightseeing spot is the Toba Aquarium, which boasts the largest collection in Japan (1,200 species). This is the only aquarium in Japan with dugongs on display, a mammal said to be the origin of the mermaid legend. About 10 minutes away by car is Mikimoto Pearl Island, the first place in the world to successfully develop cultured pearls. In addition to a museum, shop, and restaurants, one highlight is watching a demonstration of the women divers who helped make the cultivation of pearls a success. The Pearl Road linking Toba and Shima is a driving course combining the coastline and overlapping mountains, making it a great way to enjoy the nature of grand Shima Peninsula. Partway through the course you’ll find the Toba Observatory at the summit of 162-meter-high Mt. Hakoda, which offers extraordinary views of the ocean.

No sightseeing trip to Mie is complete without visiting Ise Jingu Shrine, affectionately known as “Oise-san.” As the largest power spot in Japan, Ise Jingu consists of 125 shrines, including the Kotaijingu Shrine (Inner Shrine)—dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami, the ancestral deity of the Imperial Family and general deity of the Japanese people—and Toyo’ukedaijingu Shrine (Outer Shrine), dedicated to the guardian deity of food and industry. When visiting Ise Shrine, don’t forget to stop by Futamigaura. This scenic spot is known for the Meotoiwa (Wedded Rocks) found in Ise Bay, and, if you are lucky, a phenomenon known as “Diamond Fuji” during the summer solstice. This is the perfect hotel for touring the historic sights, getting the most out of the natural scenery, and savoring the rich seafood of Iseshima.
