Historic traditional village and culture park

One of Okinawa’s best cultural attractions, Yaima Mura, or Yaeyama Village, is where history comes to life. An essential day out for visitors to Ishigaki Island, the traditional theme park lets you step back in time to enjoy the unique crafts and customs of the area. The beautiful natural surroundings add the perfect backdrop to this must-see sight in southern Japan.
The houses on display at Yaeyama Village are excellent examples of the traditional architecture of Ishigaki. Most are over a century old and were carefully transported from various locations across the island. Guests are welcome to explore the inner spaces of these houses – though shoes must be removed – and English explanations are available at various points of interest.

Live performances of traditional dance and music are commonly held in the village, a great opportunity to snap photos of the entertainers in traditional dress. Guests can get in on the fun themselves by renting outfits from one of the stores. Delicious food, including tropical specialties made with shaved ice, is served in the village restaurant. To make your trip even sweeter, be sure to visit the adorable squirrel monkeys living nearby. With so many activities on offer, a day at Yaima Mura is fun for the whole family.

Enjoy the unique sights and experiences offered by Yaima Mura, where Ishigaki’s island traditions are kept alive.
