Experience the grandeur of Aso’s lush grassland plain

The vast grassland of Kusasenrigahama unfolds over the ruins of a crater on the northern slope of Mount Eboshi, one of Mount Aso’s five majestic peaks. Often known simply as Kusasenri, the area is one of Aso’s most famous tourist attractions and has been designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty and a Natural Monument of Japan. The magnificent sight of horses and cows leisurely grazing against the backdrop of Mount Aso and its billowing plumes of smoke attract numerous visitors throughout the year, both from across Japan and around the world. Kusasenri is also popular for its unique seasonal scenery. In addition to the famous vivid green grassland in summer, the winter snows envelop the landscape to create a fantastic silvery-white wonderland. Visitors can also explore various nearby tourist facilities, including the Aso Volcano Museum and horseback riding clubs.
