If you're looking for one of the best night spots in Tokyo, then Kabukicho in Shinjuku should definitely be one of your first ports of call. Infamous as Tokyo's entertainment and red-light district, and often known as a “sleepless town”, visitors can enjoy a uniquely vibrant atmosphere. This is the largest nightlife district in the city, and the area has a very distinct feel, vastly different to the scene of Roppongi. When it comes to things to do in Tokyo after dusk, Kabukicho is definitely a must-see location.
The district is named after a Kabuki theater that was once due to be built in its vicinity. Now, a vast array of places to eat and drink fill the area. The Kabukicho clubs are perfect for partying like a local.
It may seem daunting at first but Kabukicho is a safe area and there are many fantastic themed Tokyo restaurants and lively bars to be found. For the best of the area, look no further than the famed Shinjuku Robot Restaurant, which offers a dazzling stage show. Though perhaps not as pristine as some of the bars along the tourist strips, there is no better place to find authentic drinking options.
