Nakanoshima Park
City's 1st public park in 1891

Vast green space is Osaka's oldest public park opened 1891

Nakanoshima Park, Osaka City’s first public green space, draws in locals and visitors alike to its manicured lawns and inviting pathways. Located between the Dojimagawa and Tosaborigawa rivers, this beautiful island in the center of Osaka provides an urban oasis for rest and relaxation. The park is awash with colorful roses in the summer and is framed year-round with classical architecture.

The park was first opened in 1891, providing Osaka residents with a lush landscape for enjoying recreation activities or simply relaxing. It was home to the city’s first beer garden, along with cafes, restaurants, and a Noh Theatre. The site is particularly scenic not only due to the park landscape itself but also thanks to its backdrop. The surroundings feature many of Osaka’s best-known classical buildings, including the Osaka Public Nakanoshima Library and Osaka Central Public Hall.

Nakanoshima Park is well known for its enchanting rose garden, with 4000 of these bold blossoms reaching their peak of beauty from mid-May through October. The park is beautifully illuminated at the end of each year, and often hosts special events that draw crowds from far and wide.

It’s easy to forget that you’re right in the city center when you explore Nakanoshima Park Osaka, with its romantic walkways and fragrant flowers.
