Ryuzu Falls
One of the three most famous waterfalls in Okunikko that continues to entrance visitors

These famous falls split into two sections at the “head of the dragon,” creating beautiful seasonal scenery right before your eyes

Ryuzu Falls is one of the three most famous waterfalls in Okunikko. At 210 meters long and 10 meters wide, visitors can enjoy intense scenery. A large boulder in the waterfall basin splits the falls in two. Because it looks like the head of a dragon peeking out, Ryuzu Falls (Dragon Head Falls) gets its name from this spot.
Ryuzu Falls is located downstream of Senjogahara, where the water that flows from Yunoko Lake becomes the Yukawa River. There are two great places to view the falls. The first is the observation platform on the downstream side, which shows an incredibly intense angle of the falls. Another is from the walking path on the east side. Don’t miss the chance to view the falls from these two wonderful perspectives.
People say that the best time to view the falls is when new growth is sprouting, when the azaleas are in bloom, or when the leaves turn red or yellow, but they are beautiful year-round. Viewing the spray of the falls together with the changing seasons is sure to bring joy and relaxation to the hearts of all who see them. Don’t miss the chance to experience the natural formations praised by Rohan Koda, a literary great of the Meiji era. Viewing the falls is free of charge. Visitors can also enjoy a break while viewing the falls at Ryuzu no Chaya tea house.
