Miyazaki City Phoenix Zoo is located in the dunes of Sunbeach Hitotsuba, which faces out onto the Pacific Ocean. The massive zoo campus has an area around 130,000 m2, and is home to around 1,200 animals of 100 different species. You can encounter animals from all around the world, from the lion and Masai giraffe of Africa to the tiger and orangutan of Eurasia, from the North American bison to the South American capybara and squirrel monkey, to the kangaroo and emu of Oceania. You can also enjoy a variety of events including a spectacular flying flamingo show put on by around 70 Chilean flamingos and a goat parade that sees as many as 50 goats charge down a 180-m path in unison. There are also chances to interact with the animals, such as hugging cute small animals and taking a large Asian elephant for a walk. You can even take a photo sitting atop one of the elephants (depending on how the elephant feels on the day). This is sure to be an unforgettable experience. In the fairground area of the zoo there are also lots of rides that even the little ones can enjoy. The “flowing pool” that is included in the zoo entry fee is also very popular in the summer. There is also a stroller rental, a nursing room, and a multipurpose toilet with diaper-changing sheets, so you can bring your baby and spend the whole day here without worry.
