Our property itself sits on one of the many Otaru Canals that date back to the area’s time as an historical fishing port. Much of the old architecture remains, repurposed into modern restaurants and shops.

A lesser known claim to fame is Hokkaido’s growing prominence as a wine region and, for spirits, a famous whiskey distillery can be found in nearby Yoichi, which is 30 minutes’ train ride from Otaru.
During the winter months, the nearby Hokkaido skiing hotspots are among the island’s most popular destination. The Shakotan Peninsula is also nearby, for stunning ocean views whatever the season.
