ACAO FOREST is a floral paradise spread out over a hillside overlooking Sagami Bay. This is a sightseeing spot where visitors can relax and admire roses and herbs from around the world, as well as local cherry blossoms and rape blossoms. The unique topography and blessed natural environment of scenic Nishikigaura is utilized to the fullest in this forest, which is dotted with 12 unique gardens. These include a garden where English roses take center stage, a garden filled with color-coordinated roses, a climbing rose garden with arches of roses, and a garden where wedding and engagement ceremonies can be held. The landscape of the sprawling rose gardens against the backdrop of the sea is as eye-catching as a painting. There is also a shrine and a Japanese garden with a traditional atmosphere, each with its own unique charm.

COEDA HOUSE, a scenically-located café designed by leading Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma, is also popular. You can while away the hours here surrounded by a spectacular view of the horizon stretching out before you. Why not try the original menu, consisting of sweets using Atami-grown fruits and rose ice cream made with fresh milk from an Izu farm. The original baumkuchen made with Izu mandarin honey makes a great souvenir. There is also a hands-on workshop where visitors can make soap and solid perfume from herbs and other natural ingredients.
